About

A 1918 cannery, still working.

The Pyramid Packing Company was built and opened in 1918 during the post-World War I boom. As a young boy of 12, Larry Calvin worked at the cannery sorting fish by species as the boats unloaded. His job was reserved for small women and children, as they could fit next to the narrow windows on the second floor where the fish came into the cannery.

The buildings processed fish on and off until the early 1960s, but Sitka winters and salt water had taken their toll. This is when Larry and his wife Maryann purchased the dilapidated dock and buildings. Today you can find Larry and Maryann's kids and grandkids continuing their folks' legacy, preserving what we now call “The Fisherman's Quay.”

We hope you enjoy your time here at the Quay. We look forward to meeting you all. Please note, our staff is all part time, so emails, texts and return calls may be delayed a few days.
